The MacNotables Plan an Alabama Mac User Group Visit

Posted by Chuck on November 1st, 2008

Individual members of the MacNotables panel making MUG presentations are hardly a rare thing. Doing a live, remote taping at a MUG meeting is.

On Saturday, November 8, Adam and Tonya Engst of TidBITS and Take Control books and Chuck Joiner of MacVoices and The MacJury will virtual-visit the Huntsville Macintosh Users Group’s monthly meeting together, and tape a special edition of MacNotables.

The MUG Event Calendar for October 20: Bob “Dr. Mac” LeVitus, Jim Heid, Tim Matheny of Apple, Google, MacCamp, MUGs at MacLive Expo and More

Posted by Chuck on October 19th, 2008

MUG Event Calendar 2008A wide and varied set of events and presentations mark this week’s MUG Event Calendar.

Bob “Dr. Mac” LeVitus will help a Texas group celebrate their 30th anniversary, Mac expert and author Jim Heid will virtual-visit a student group in Massachusetts, and Apple Senior Systems Engineer Tim Matheny will present to a group in Tennessee. Google will show off their many wares to a California MUG, while members of several European Mac User Groups will man the MUG stand at this week’s MacLive Expo in the United Kingdom, and an Oregon user group tradition continues with the gathering known as MacCamp.

That’s far from all, however. Two California Final Cut Pro groups have fill agendas for their October meetings, a Canadian group will focus on a screen capture program and zombies (zombies?), and Mac User Groups everywhere will be buzzing about Apple’s new laptop options.

There seems to be some confusion about how to get listed on the MUG Event Calendar. Write this down: Just email your group’s meeting information to The MUG Center and it will magically appear here, on The MUG Event Calendar and in our weekly Briefing. Got it? Good.

Posted by Chuck on October 19th, 2008

Bob LeVitus
The October meeting of the Houston Area Apple User Group (HAAUG) will mark their 30th anniversary celebration. Thirty years in business as a Mac User Group is worthy of a party, and who better to have as the guest speaker than Bob “Dr. Mac” Levitus.

Bob will visit HAAUG to deliver one of his trademark “State of the Mac” addresses that will cover not only Apple’s new hardware announcements of iPods, MacBook Pro’s, MacBooks and MacBook Airs, but also some of his favorite programs and utilities that are both useful and fun.

The party starts at 9 AM on October 25th at the Bellaire Civic Center. Visit the HAAUG web site for directions and information on how you can join in and see Dr. Mac live and in person.

Veescope Signals displays the brightness, flesh tones, white points in the video in a series of specialized scopes that are overlaid directly on top of the image. Using these scopes a user can quickly identify the problem areas in the video and correct them.

The rest of the evening will consist of “Stump The Gurus,” Show and Tells, and of course, World Famous Raffle. A $5.00 donation will be requested at the door. Doors open at 6PM. lafcpug meetings are open to the public. First come, best seat.
