It is that time of year again: the Portland Macintosh Users Group will hold their semi-annual event, MacCamp, at the Silver Falls State Park on October 24-26.
This year’s event features workshops on Photoshop Elements 6, Microsoft Office, Numbers ‘08, hard drive backups, “From Terminal to Safari - How to get more out of your Macintosh” and much more.

The start of October ushers in a busy month on The MUG Event Calendar, with some notable guests and the first wave of meetings following the Adobe Creative Suite 4 launch.
Adam Engst of TidBITS, Take Control and MacNotables will visit, in person, a group in Chicago, and on the same night, part way around the world, Liam Donohoe, the General Manager of Apple Ireland will address a group in that country. Later in the week, Mike McHugh of Adobe will show off the new edition of Creative Suite 4.
But that’s just where the CS4 meetings start. Presentations of the package will be delivered in Canada, Florida, and at other Australian groups.
Other topics on the agenda for the week include iMovie, Digital Photography, genealogy, Bento, Aperture and more.

ClubMac, the Mac User Group in Dublin, Ireland will host a very special guest at their October meeting: Liam Donohoe, General Manager for Apple Ireland.
Liam is scheduled to provide an update on Apple’s activities in their country, and will undoubtedly talk about the new versions of the iPod, iTunes 8 and more.

Adam Engst, publisher of TidBITS and the Take Control ebook series, has announced two different Mac User Group appearances for October.
Adam gets out of the gate fast, visiting the Chicago Apple User Group on October 1 “live and in person.” Then, on October 8, Adam is back in his home state of New York for a presentation to MUG ONE.
Guests at each meeting can expect Adam to talk about recent developments in the Macintosh world, including new iPods, the iPhone 3G, the App Store situation, the new edition of his book, Take Control of Buying a Mac, and much more.
Adam and Tonya Engst are both long-time user group supporters, and provide consistent support to MUGs through the TidBITS User Group Program.

This week’s MUG Event Calendar is highlighted by Final Cut Pro User Group meetings and a regional Mac expo.
Adam Pratt of Adobe will be presenting the new Creative Suite 4 in Ohio, and there are Final Cut Pro User Group meetings scheduled from coast to coast, north to south this week, with six different FCPUG’s showing off a wide variety of hardware, software and techniques for Mac video enthusiasts.
A MUG-sponsored expo in California features not only appearances by photography expert Derrick Story, Mac authors and experts Tom Negrino and Dori Smith and graphics wizard Burt Monroy, but also a host of Mac vendors showing off their offerings.
Other topics on this week’s schedule include iWeb, the iPHone 3G, FileMaker, Bento, MobileMe and more.

On Saturday, September 27, the North Coast Macintosh Users Group (NCMUG) will again host the Macintosh Computer Expo (MCE) at The Glaser Center in Santa Rosa California.
This year’s event includes a variety of prominent speakers from the Mac community, including digital photography effort Derrick Story, authors and Mac experts Tom Negrino and Dori Smith, graphics wizard Burt Monroy and more.

The MUG Event Calendar starts to reflect the announcements at Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event, as well as a wide variety of topics, presentations and demos.
Ian Schray of Softpress continues on the Freeway Road Show, this time stopping in Oregon for a MUG demo of their web authoring software, Avery will be showing off their labeling solutions at a California group, and the Houston Area Apple Users Group will hold a celebration of their 30th anniversary.
Groups in Tennessee and Oregon will be formally demonstrating the capabilities of the new iTunes 8, and the App Store is on the agenda in Wisconsin. Other topics getting top-level attention include Pages, podcasting, Pixelmator, SketchUp, FileMaker, Bento, YahooGroups and much, much more.

The Macintosh Users Group of Southern New Jersey (MUGSNJ) will hold a special event at the Gloucester County College on Saturday, September 27: An afternoon with Robin Williams.
Mac author extraordinaire morphed into Shakespearean expert and MacNotables panel member, Robin will speak about how she became a celebrity writer for the Macintosh with titles like The Mac Is Not A Typewriter, The Non-Designer’s Design Book, and her latest, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard: Peachpit Learning Series.
