"Apple Regional Liaisons are user group leaders who run successful user groups in their communities. As volunteers, they have made themselves available to help groups in their areas of responsibility thrive. They also network with groups in their regions and keep Apple informed on local needs."

Maria O. Arguello
Apple Regional Liaison:
Northeast United States and Online Groups

December 2004

Hello,

I want to introduce myself to you as your new Apple Regional Liaison. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Tell me about any exciting events that are happening in your MUG. I'd also love to read your electronic Newsletters, so please send them to me-I promise to read all of them. I want to hear from you and to provide you with the best information available to help you and your MUG grow, be successful, and above all have FUN doing it. I want to highlight some exciting and new events happening in your MUGs in future dispatches.

I hope many of you went to the CompUSA event on Thursday, December 2, 2004. I went and found the staff eager to give us personalized attention. Unfortunately the turnout at my local store was not great, as only about twelve users showed up. There was a raffle for 75 iTunes Downloads. No one that I knew won, but all was not lost-the staff welcomed our brochures to promote Apple User Groups, and will be including us in early notifications of their special sales items. They served very good hot coffee and donuts. Developing a good relationship with the staff of this store-and the stores near any of your Groups-could be mutually beneficial.

I am part of the Macworld Expo Planning Team and am going to mention some of the exciting opportunities available for you and your MUG. You will enhance your experience by volunteering and participating in any or all of these events planned just for you. See details below.

That's it until next month, when I will let you know what happened at Macworld SF 05-what I saw, what I liked, and what I bought. If you're going to be there look me up and introduce yourselves.

Regards,

-- Maria O. Arguello

(3) The UG Lounge-is a place away from the buzz of the floor where you can have a chance to talk & meet w/ folks like Chris Breen, David Pogue, Bob "Dr. Mac" LeVitus and others, and also put your feet up and network with others. Each shift only lasts two hours, so this is a great way to give yourself a two-hour break from pounding the floor.

(4) The Guides-this small booth lives close to the ACN booth, and is a place where people drop by when they're trying to find important things like the restrooms and food, or less important places like Vendor "X". Beyond interacting with the general public, you have a chance to make a new friend in the person you're working with-there are always at least two people on staff. The shifts only last two hours, so it's easy to fit it in around the tour of the Expo floor.

(5) The Booth-This year the booth is a little different, in the sense that unlike the past where you had to have a large enough group coming down to staff the booth for a whole day, we've arranged it so that you (and your MUG) can be a part of the booth even if you're the only one coming down, and you may only spend 2 hours volunteering as booth staff. So big group, or small, one 2-hour shift, all day, or all week-you can be a part of a dynamic area of the expo floor where people come with questions about MUGs, who are they, where are they, why are they, and you can pass the fire on to them.
