Apple Regional Liaison Team Dispatches: Northwest United States, April 2005

Northwest United States
Happy Spring to you!

After having a February full of 80 deg. days, we've stepped back into our normal liquid sunshine diet for the last few weeks, even seeing a little bit of snow, which is great for our water level. Despite snow & rain, the spring flowers are doing their best, with trilliums & shooting stars covering the forest floor.

Hopefully this finds you enjoying a beautiful spring as well.

I had another great weekend at MacCamp this spring - on top of celebrating the 40th MacCamp! For those of you within flying/driving distance, it really is something you should experience at least once in your lifetime - where else can you take your Mac and spend a weekend in a beautiful mountain setting surrounded by 10 waterfalls and a group of fellow Mac lovers!

I am always here to help you with any questions or black holes you come up with.

Now, on to the lastest news - enjoy, and keep passing on the MUG fire!

dBUG (WA) Main Meeting - April 13
Clark Schroeder from Apple was back again to rock the house with GarageBand, a follow up to last months iLife 05 presentation. He also introduced the Mac Mini to the group.
For more on dBUGs meetings and happenings, stop by their website.

PMUG (OR) & the 40th MacCamp - April 15 - 17
It all started in a drafty lodge 20 years ago, and people have been coming back ever since. Very few had attended more than five or ten, and only two were there from the original event. But, add a cake, an energetic crowd of over 65 people, a great slate of classes, great raffle prizes, and a healthy dose of liquid sunshine, and I think the best MacCamp just took place. PMUG will be putting a full report out as soon as they recover from the weekend, so stay tuned to their website.

JoMacs (OR) & Project Restart
Four years ago, the Josephine County Mac User Group started Project Restart - a program to refurbish older Macs and pass them on to the Southern Oregon Head Start program to pass out to the families in their program in need of computers. This year, after having the community get involved in the program, it has sprouted into it's own entity, and is on its way to providing 60 machines this year. They've expanded to accepting PCs as well as Macs, and now have their own office space to work on the machines. (It's been exciting for me to see this program grow!) An initial website is up with information on the program, and it will be expanding to share family testimonials as they come in. http://www.projectrestart.org

Cheers!

"Catch the MUG BUG, get involved!"

"Apple Regional Liaisons are user group leaders who run successful user groups in their communities. As volunteers, they have made themselves available to help groups in their areas of responsibility thrive. They also network with groups in their regions and keep Apple informed on local needs."
