TMC Survey: Over the last year, how many of your group's meetings have been "home grown?"
Survey Dates: May 4 - May 17, 2005
Most user groups have meetings on a regular basis, and most of those prefer to have at least one primary presentation, demonstration or speaker. A quick glance at The MUG Event Calendar shows the wide diversity of meeting topics and presenters. While having vendors present is something every MUG would like to have more of, most rely on "home grown" presentations by members. This week, we want to learn more about who presents at your group's meeting.

Over the last year, how many of your group's meetings have been "home grown?"

Comments:

  • As you may know, Hawaii MacNuts is on an island in the Pacific, and thus we are left to fend for ourselves.

  • We were supposed to have one other guest presenter at a meeting but he cancelled at the last minute 2 months in a row so we fell back on plan B.

  • We only have 7 meetings a year, taking July & Aug off, and Jan. for MW. Rarely do we have anyone come in. Most years it's 100% home grown.

  • This is a hard one for us to answer as we have a Main Presentation plus 20 Special Interest Groups on the 1st Saturday of each month, plus two other meetings a month. Most of the SIGs are "home grown" but some of the larger ones get their own external presenters. Then the same happens for for the other two Meetings, so we've just gone with "Main Meeting" presentations here.

  • We have been lucky to have had a number of vendor presentations over the past few years. And will continue to have them as they are available. But I have found that members actually respond more positively to member presentations. I think a concern for vendor presentation is they tend to be 1 hour long commercials for a product while member presentations tend to be more problem solving presentation and thus come across as more useful.

  • We have only 9 meetings per year.
