Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak to MC this year’s
“You Don’t Know Mac!” UG celebration and trivia event in Oregon!

What does an Apple legend and sand have to do with Nov. 11?

They will be the key contributors to Round 2 of the statewide annual You Don’t Know Mac! 2000 trivia and user group celebration event, to be hosted by MUGport in Newport, Oregon on Saturday, Nov. 11, 6-8:00 P.M., at the OSU-Hatfield Marine Science Center.

Okay, since Newport is the beautiful coast town that was home to Keiko the whale for 2 years, you should have gotten the “sand” part by now. But who is the Apple legend? The celebrity Master of Ceremony for YDKM 2000 will be none other than Apple co-founder, Steve “The Woz” Wozniak!

That’s right — the Woz will take time from his busy schedule as a teacher and “legend” to offer his support for Oregon MUGs and the YDKM event this year! Wozniak was recently voted into the Inventors Hall of Fame, for his Apple I computer that started the personal computer revolution.

Can there be a better way to spend a Saturday for a Mac user — on the Oregon coast, in the company of a few hundred Mac users, testing your Apple trivia knowledge and possibly walking away with a prize or 2 (yes, even for the audience!) ...and meeting the Woz?! We don’t think so!

If you missed last year’s inaugural YDKM event in Corvallis, here is what this event is all about, and what YDKM 2000 will showcase:

Four Oregon MUGs — Eugene, Portland, Corvallis and host Newport — will each send a 3-person team to compete on stage in a 3-round trivia battle. In the end, the “winner” gets the revolving Golden Apple trophy for one year, and to choose first from a ton of prizes donated for the support of user groups by several industry vendors. All competing MUGs, actually, get to select, round-robin, prizes that would best help their MUG or community. And that’s not all. During the first 2 rounds of action, questions will be directed to our AUDIENCE periodically and prizes tossed out to those with the correct answers! Think you know Mac? Then raise your hand!

Updates and more details (including possible hotel discounts for those who wish to spend the night, directions, etc.) can be found on host MUGport’s website

This will not be your ordinary trivia contest.

For those of you already a member a Mac User Group, you know Mac users are the most loyal, friendly, sharing and fun computer users of any platform. This event will offer more proof. For those of you new to Apple and Macintosh, the contest will give you a great introduction into the colorful and industry-setting history of Apple Computer and the computer that was created “for the rest of us.”

Our friendly contest will probe the history of Macintosh, Apple Computer, and some of the more popular Mac software titles via our trivia questions (collected from several sources). You can be certain there will be some “Woz” related questions this year!

Apple Comes To Tyler

The Tyler Area Macintosh Users, Tyler, TX, will host "Apple Comes to Tyler," a special community and regional event featuring Martha Whitehouse of Apple November 14 in the facilities of the Rogers Student Center of Tyler Junior College.

Apple Comes to Tyler is structured to be of interest to citizens in the general community that might want to explore Apple's offerings for consumers. It also will appeal to current Mac users, both casual and professional, and the educational community. Posters are being sent to university journalism and graphics departments throughout East Texas, inviting groups to attend this special event.

Richard Huggins, president of TAMU, stated, "It is a special day when 'the Mother Ship' comes to our town, and we believe this event will offer East Texans a chance to see the latest news and products from Apple in a convenient and intimate setting."

MacCollege In Atlanta

The Atlanta Macintosh Users Group is proud to host another session of MacCollege. On November 11th we are meeting at the Education Center at St Joseph's Hospital on Peachtree Dunwoody Road. The Education Center is a state of the art Hi-tech facility that has been made available to us thanks to the efforts of Stan Allen. There is a small cafeteria located adjacent to the education center for those that need lunch or refreshments during the day. We will have Donuts and Juice available for our early registrants.

There will be several new type of classes this session: "Everything You Wanted To Know About OS X And Then Some," "How To Become MP3 Savvy And Listen To All That Cool Music," "Design A Killer Website." We are having a very special presentation brought to us by our friends at Microsoft Corporation who will show off their latest software release: Office Mac 2001. Wrapping up the day will be a small Q & A session and a raffle where we will have several prizes to give away.
